Frequently asked questions

Which SSL certificate should I choose?

A standard website with one domain needs DV. Subdomains: wildcard. Several distinct domains: multi-domain (SAN). For finance, banking, or public sector: OV or EV with prevalidation.

What is the difference between DV, OV, and EV?

DV verifies only domain ownership and is issued automatically. OV and EV verify your company identity via business registry and phone confirmation. With prevalidation, new OV/EV certificates are issued instantly for up to one year.

How long is an SSL certificate valid?

At most 199 days now. From 15 March 2027 the limit becomes 99 days, and from 15 March 2029 47 days (CA/Browser Forum SC-081). We recommend SSL Automation so renewal takes care of itself.

SSL Automation

The lifetime is 199 days now and 99 days from 24 February 2027. The automation issues and renews the certificate on its own, with one CNAME delegation per domain and no DNS keys on the server.
